Diego López, among the youngest Valencia CF players to reach 15 goals in LALIGA in the 21st century
The Asturian winger ranks fourth, only behind Juan Mata, Paco Alcácer, and Santi Mina
First statements from the Valencian forward after his contract renewal
The Asturian winger, Diego López, speaks to VCF Media following his contract extension with Valencia CF until June 2029. A renewal that consolidates him as one of the key pieces of the team’s attack, both in the present and future. The player from Turón expresses his happiness and gratitude for the trust placed in him.
Renewal
“I’m very happy, very grateful to the Club for this renewal, and now it’s my turn to show them that they weren’t wrong about me. I’ll keep giving everything, just as I’ve always done. I’ve always said it: I doubt I could be anywhere better than here. The Club is incredible—the people, the city—I’ve felt at home since the day I arrived. I had zero doubts about staying here because I feel truly happy. The Club deserves my thanks for the effort it has made to keep me here. I wanted to stay, and the Club has always trusted me since I came up. This is my fifth season, and I hope to be here for many more. Valencia means something very special to me because of everything this Club and its people represent. I carry it in my heart.”
Career
“I arrived as a kid; I’m still young, but I’ve matured. The people here have helped me a lot in that process. I’ve had great coaches who have made me improve and grow—and they still do. I hope to go as far as possible with Valencia CF in LaLiga, and winning titles with this shirt would be a dream.”
Best moments
“There are many: from my debut to my first goal. But I’ll choose the match against Real Betis at Mestalla. I’ll always keep that goal with me because of what that game meant, and how emotional that day was. It’s a memory I’ll carry forever.”
The team
“We’re doing well, we have clear ideas, the new signings have settled in nicely, they understand what the team is about, and we welcomed them with open arms. The match against Real Sociedad ended in a draw, but it felt like not enough, and that speaks very highly of the group, which is ambitious. If we keep working the way we have been, things will go very well.”
The fans
“They’ve always shown me affection. The more than 40,000 Valencia fans who come to every match help us, support us, and I try to give it back on the pitch with effort and sacrifice, because I believe they deserve nothing less. Hopefully they’ll continue supporting the team this way, because they are fundamental.”
